Weeping Angels are the bizarre quantum-creature monsters from the seminal Doctor Who TV series. They’re almost like a sci‑fi take on Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle: when you’re observing them, they’re frozen as if your gaze collapses the superposition of all their possible moves. It’s only when they are unobserved that they are dangerous.
It’s a bunch of delightful pseudo-scientific nonsense, but the important point is that they don’t move while you’re looking at them. They physically appear as stone statues very much in the vein of your standard Mary Magdalene-style Catholic cemetery sculptures. And whenever you’re not looking, they creep ever closer.
When I first heard about them, I was immediately reminded of the Boo ghosts from the Super Mario series, which only move toward Mario when he isn’t facing them.

So I thought it might be fun to put together a little webcam demo inspired by Weeping Angels.
If you look away or even blink the Weeping Angel will try to inch closer to you. The Boo only tries to chase you down if you look away. Think of it like the old “red light, green light” game you played as a kid, except with much worse consequences.
There’s also probably a solid staring-contest–style game mechanic in here somewhere if anyone wants to develop it further.
