Experiments with Nano Banana 2
Some preliminary tests with generating images using the newest version of Google's multimodal generative model - NB Pro 2.
Google has made its newest multimodal model, Nano Banana 2 (gemini-3.1-flash-image-preview), available for both image generation and editing.
This is a preliminary post to put the newest version of Nano Banana through some moderately complex prompts. For a more extensive comparison to see how well it fared against predecessor among other state-of-the-art-models, see GenAI Showdown .
King Louie Jump Rope
Prompt
A photo of a man with elongated arms clasping his hands together and using them like a biological jump-rope.
The original NB Pro struggled pretty hard with this prompt - which NB Pro 2 managed to get in a single try.
Periodic Motion with a Piano
Prompt
A grand piano with the colors of the keys reversed, top-down view
Image models have been getting increasingly better at handling periodic patterns - even when we ratcheted up the difficulty NB Pro 2 still did a pretty good job.
TRIVIA
It wasn’t uncommon for older Viennese pianos to feature black natural keys and white accidentals due to the cost of ivory.
Beaver Butt Slap
Prompt
Two beavers facing away from each other and lifting their haunches to slap their tails together because they are proud of their dam which they finally finished. The beavers have smugly proud expressions on their furry faces.
Superman goes to the Fair
Prompt
Superman accidentally uses his heat vision in a funhouse mirror maze at a carnival trying to nail a villain. But the beams ricochet wildly off the distorted mirrors, bouncing in every direction until they end up killing literally everyone inside, comic-book style.
We really wanted to show people burned to ashes or the laser slicing through people Homelander style but despite our efforts Google kept it pretty tame.
